Decisive Weekend Ahead for North Wellington in Central League Survival Battle

The final round of the Men’s Central League season brings high stakes for North Wellington, with survival in the top flight hanging in the balance.

North Wellington host Upper Hutt City at Alex Moore Park this Saturday, 31 August, kicking off at 2.30 pm, knowing that their destiny remains in our own hands. A win would secure Men's Central League 1 football in 2026, no matter the results elsewhere.

The equation is simple:

  • Win – North Wellington FC stay up.

  • Draw – Survival is only guaranteed if Island Bay United suffer a heavy defeat of six goals or more away to Western Suburbs.

  • Loss – Relegation to Central League 2 for 2026 will be confirmed.

Recent form provides cause for optimism. North Wellington battled to a spirited 2–2 draw with Wellington Phoenix Reserves on 23 August, while Saturday’s opponents Upper Hutt lost 3–0 at home to Western Suburbs. Elsewhere, Island Bay went down 5–0 to newly-crowned champions Wellington Olympic, adding further tension to the final weekend.

With Western Suburbs already assured of a National League spot, all eyes turn to the bottom of the table where the battle for survival will be decided.

This is a pivotal moment for North Wellington and the support from the community could make all the difference.
